Glossary
Every game word on this site sits over something real. This page says what each one actually is.
- Character
- Your profile. It holds your answers to thirteen questions about what matters to you, plus the career and money figures you have chosen to record.
- Forging a character
- Answering those questions for the first time. Nothing more mystical than that.
- Class (like Ledger-Keeper)
- Your real line of work, matched to the government's own job categories. It names what you do and prefills a typical wage for your state. It never changes any county's score and never unlocks or blocks anything.
- Ascendancy
- A focus within your class, like Accountant within Ledger-Keeper. A label you choose, not a bonus.
- XP (experience points)
- Progress points paid for real steps you complete, like clearing a savings goal. Each step pays once, ever, and your total only counts up.
- Level, gears 1 to 6
- Six rungs that summarize your XP. The dashboard draws them as a gear strip.
- Journey
- Your moving plan: the set of requirements between you and the county you are aiming at.
- Quest
- One real requirement, like first month's rent plus a deposit. Its target comes from the county's own published data or a published rule, never from an invented number.
- Target county
- The county you are working toward. You can change it at any time.
- Fit score
- How well a county matches your priorities, 0 to 100. It is computed from your thirteen answers and published county data, and your class plays no part in it.
- Readiness
- Your progress toward one specific county's requirements. The same step can leave you more ready for a cheap county than an expensive one, so readiness is always per county.
- The Runway
- How many months your savings could cover at your monthly costs. The Runway Quiz records the three figures it needs: savings, income, and monthly outgoings.
- Leftovers (cruising speed)
- What is left over each month: your income minus your budgeted expenses.
- Your Odyssey
- Homer's Odyssey is the oldest journey story in the West: a long voyage, made of many smaller journeys, toward home. On this site your odyssey is the move to a new county, and the journeys on the Journey page each provision a leg of it. You take them in whatever order your real life allows; an odyssey has no deadline.
- The Keep
- The safest tower of a castle, and the place where you keep things. On this site it is the hall where your own records live and are protected: your character sheet, your money records, the job and housing boards, and your market stall. You venture out on the Journey, then return here to bank what you gained and prepare for the next adventure. Called the Guild Hall, and then the Megaron, until 2026.
- The Treasury and the Counting House
- Your money record: what you have and what you spend. A card statement you import is read into rows on your own device and the file is never stored.
- Provisions
- Your food spending, shown as a trend over time rather than a running total.
- Market stall
- The things you are selling before the move: what you listed, what sold, and what it fetched.
- The notice board and the doors
- Links that open real job or housing searches on the sites that hold them, prefilled for your county. The listings live there, not here.
- Diaries
- Personal claims you record for yourself, about your life or about a county. They pay no points, on purpose: this site cannot verify them, so it does not reward them.
- Example character
- The sample data shown on gated pages while you are signed out, built from published medians. None of it is yours or anyone's, and nothing you press in the example saves.
The story behind the framing, and why the whole thing is shaped like a game, lives on the run so far.
